DU IT designs personalized “therapeutic” spaces according to the user’s needs using innovative technologies to improve the quality of life. It begins with a design that blends research, psychological counseling, and digital interaction. The ultimate goal is the development of personal skills through sensory stimulation. The user is free to interact with the environment, becoming the owner of his/her own well-being.

The user

The needs and requirements of users are the starting point of each project. The users talk about themselves, describe their lifestyle, sources of comfort or discomfort, and needs and desires. This information is crucial to the therapeutic target and, therefore, to the space and living environment. Innovation comes from the actual user—it transforms deficits into potential and problems into strengths.

Research and innovation

Research applied to therapy. We study the pathology and the specific needs of the user with the medical team. Our research focuses on the application of technology to architecture, which defines the comfort criteria of the user compared to the environment in which he/she lives and well-being needs. Furthermore, we develop unique and innovative spaces, tailored according to the therapy, with the aim of improving the quality of life.

Designing together innovative, unique, custom-built, therapeutic systems: the fruit and result of research. The sensory environment is based on the interaction between software development and home automation. Moreover, thanks to the support of the technical team, it can be adapted to each user’s needs.

Customized solutions

The final solutions, which are validated by all members of the team, are original environments and systems that are used to create innovative solutions aimed at achieving well-being. Our job is to remain close to the user, support the biopsychological aspects, and assess the actions/reactions and the effectiveness of the therapy in terms of quality of life. Our assistance is continuous and, thanks to the flexibility of our projects, any changes, additions, and further customization can be carried out according to the findings of the experimentation phase. We work together for a better life.

Our goal is to improve the daily life of users, not only individuals affected by cognitive disabilities. We do this through relaxation strategies and interaction with sensory stimuli that are tailored according to the abilities and well-being needs to ensure comfort, while reducing psychophysical negative effects and stress. The aim is to create enabling spaces that, on one hand, contribute to improving relationships with family members and social integration and, on the other, helps the individual become, as much as possible, independent both during and after our intervention.

Our therapeutic environments for users affected by cognitive disabilities are designed according to the coordinated research experience of architects and psychotherapists, and are based on the needs of the users and their pathology. The innovative technologies of sensory systems are used to support and implement the cognitive therapies that such centers already use, in conjunction with drug-based treatments, in order to guarantee users’ greater quality of life (also within their families), reducing stress, developing their skills, and improving their mood and the ability to relate to others.

Our designs improve the quality of life of older people, especially in cases of dementia or Alzheimer’s, through the design of prosthetic spaces and therapeutic environments, with the aim of maintaining physical and mental abilities and rehabilitating through sensory stimulation. We provide an alternative solution to drug treatments that reduces depression and the sense of abandonment by developing dialogue and social interaction.

We specialize in the humanization of hospital environments through environmental psychology, achieving well-being and comfort. Sensory architecture provides excellent support in specific departments, such as pediatrics, by improving the relationship between the child and the therapeutic environment; delivery rooms, in order to help the patients relax; neuropsychiatry departments, by facilitating treatments; and even simple operations, such a clinical tests, an experience that can be difficult for some patients.

By combining physical, psychological, and cognitive rehabilitation, users can strengthen and develop skills in an environment that can stimulate mental and physical activities. Our designs can reduce both pre- and post-race stress and tension, even muscle pain, anxiety, and depression, and increase concentration, resilience, empathy, and emotional intelligence.

We design spaces that provide multisensory and physical stimulation—wellness spaces that favor serenity and relaxation, stimulating people through special sensory experiences, according to the feelings to be targeted. Users can immerse themselves in a completely different reality, choosing the scenario of their dreams, and letting go for a unique and evocative experience.

We design spaces that can reduce work stress, especially in large companies where issues stemming from fast-paced environments can be easily solved with relaxation and an immersion in sensory stimulation. A properly designed workspace can generally improve user comfort and increase productivity.
